Veterans' Defense

Seth has been the Defense Counsel for the Veterans’ Court in Augusta since its inception in 2011 and has developed a specialty practice representing veterans facing criminal charges. The defense of veterans is often different from that of civilian defendants and having an attorney with experience and knowledge around those issues is essential to a positive resolution of a veteran’s case.

During their service, veterans can be at risk for developing Post-Traumatic Stress symptoms, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or Acute Acoustic Trauma. At home, symptoms from these conditions may cause them to have difficulty managing their lives leading to behaviors, and possibly issues around addiction, which can bring them into the criminal justice system.

These veterans are being criminally charged, convicted and incarcerated for conduct which is a result of their service.

Without an attorney adequately trained, and with a sound understanding of the issues, it is possible for veterans to find themselves incarcerated rather than receiving the treatment and supports they need to get back on their feet and to reconnect with their communities and families.
